The Microsoft Corporation India on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Punjab Government for jointly developing and deploying an array of technology for e-governance in the state.
The MOU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, information technology principal secretary B R Bajaj and Microsoft Corporation managing director Rajiv Kaul at the chief minister's official residence in Chnadigarh.
Commenting on the signing of the MoU, Kaul said the state's department of information technology will attain the status of a strategic Microsoft Technology partner for consulting, developing and executing systems integration projects.
He said that the MoU entails setting up of two centres of excellence for e-governance in Chandigarh and Jalandhar.
Kaul said Microsft would also assist in the development and transfer of skills for information and communication technology projects in government schools.
Speaking on the occasion Amarinder Singh said that the MoU is aimed to facilitate greater transparency, better citizen services, reduced cost of operations and enhanced agility in governance.
