Mecca Cola, a softdrink that promises to fight "American capitalism and Zionism" has gone on sale in parts of Israel for the first time with the company pledging a share of profits to "the children of Palestine."
Mecca-Cola is an "ideological consumer choice" and not some simple carbonated soft drink, Taufik Mathlouthi, who launched the drink three years ago in France said in a teleconference from Paris.
For Israeli Arabs the cola means "freedom from Jewish hegemony," he said adding, "We will struggle against Zionism inside its home."
"We don't have a problem with the Jews living in the Zionist entity, only with the entity itself and what it symbolises," he added.
The new product has also been dubbed as the "official refreshner of the Conference of Wealthy Islamic States," Daily Ha'aretz reported.
The labels on the bottles have the Dome of the rock illustrated on them with a request, "please don't mix with alcohol."
The label also clearly states that 10 per cent of the profits from Mecca-Cola will go to "the children of Palestine," and another 10 per cent to "local charities" in each country where it is sold.
The cola distributor in Israel, Makdad Idris, an Israeli from northern town of Taibeh, said he would donate all 20 per cent to the Palestinians, but a certain amount would go to needy Israeli-Arab children as well, the report said.
