The total size of the Indian security software market was $34 million in 2004.
"Though the size of security and disaster recovery solutions in India is small as compared to other countries of Asia-Pacific, as a percentage of total IT spend it is much higher," Vivian Tero, senior analyst, software research at IDC Asia-Pacific said.
The early adopters of disaster recovery solutions in India are a handful of large organisations but on an average they are spending a lot more, she said at IDC's security and business continuity conference in New Delhi.
"Our research shows that many of the organisations see investment in disaster recovery as priority," Tero said.
As many as 19 per cent of the Indian organisations that have implemented disaster recovery solutions have more than four kind of software as against the average of 19 per cent in Asia-Pacific and nine per cent in Australia, she addded.
The Indian companies that have implemented disaster recovery solutions go for frequent upgrades.
"On an average an Indian organisation goes for the upgrade of disaster recovery solutions 6.7 times a year. This places them among the top in this category in Asia-Pacific," Tero said.
