Philip Morris Services India SA has entered into an agreement with Barakat Foods and Tobacco Pvt Ltd for the distribution of Marlboro cigarettes in India.
The company will directly import the product, which will then be distributed by BFT under a non-exclusive agreement, Ajit Sahgal, spokesperson, PMSI, told newspersons in New Delhi.
Initially, Marlboro Full Flavor and Lights will be introduced in the metropolitan areas of the western part of the country.
A pack of 20 cigarettes will cost Rs 75, he said.
Philip Morris Services India is an affiliate of the Switzerland-based leading tobacco company Philip Morris International.
Its brand portfolio includes L&M, Parliament, Chesterfield, Bond Street, Philip Morris, Lark and Marlboro.
"We hope that our imported Marlboro will compete successfully in the Indian market by gaining popularity among adult smokers. It is a premium-priced American blend brand that will compete in the international market," Sahgal added.
