'Make in India' campaign a step in right direction: Nooyi

April 04, 2015 20:22 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for 'Make in India' would help boost manufacturing and employment in the country, PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi said on Saturday.

"PM is absolutely right in saying 'Make in India' because ultimately we are trying to build a base in manufacturing and boost employment and that is very good," Nooyi said on the sidelines of IIM Calcutta convocation.

About PepsiCo's plan for India, she said, "Almost everything we sell here is made in India. Yesterday, PepsiCo had inaugurated the country's largest beverage plant in Andhra Pradesh.

"We have just inaugurated the first phase of country's largest beverage plant in Sri city. I must say that Andhra Pradesh government has been very supportive and Chief Minister

Chandrababu Naidu has been simply fantastic in supporting us (in) providing the approval on time and helping in providing the right infrastructure... the environment is very friendly," she said.

About PepsiCo's vision for 2020 announced in 2013, under which the company would invest Rs 33,000 crore (Rs 330 billion) in the country, Nooyi said, "It is a huge amount of money and let us do it first."
