Mahindra & Mahindra will launch the compressed natural gas-powered variant of its Logan car at around Rs 5.20 lakh, in an attempt to spruce sales of the entry-level sedan.
The car, to cost Rs 56,000 more than the traditional petrol model, will be made available in only two cities, Mumbai and Delhi initially, but will be distributed in other cities such as Kanpur, Surat and Ahmedabad at later stages.
M&M is importing the CNG kit for the Logan from an Italian firm, Landy Renzo, also the world leader in supplying CNG kits to auto makers.
The CNG version will be made available in two versions, the 1.4 GLE and GLX. The city-based company will make an announcement in this regard on Wednesday. The CNG models' premium pricing will be offset for the buyer within a year believes M&M, considering its better fuel efficiency.
Arun Malhotra, senior vice-president (sales), M&M, said, "Assuming a person is driving the car for 2,000 km every month, the premium the buyer is paying will be cleared within 12-13 months."
