McDonald's at Kolkata petrol pumps soon

McDonald's India, with an eye to expand in East, may open restaurants at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) outlets in Kolkata during the year.

"McDonald's have shortlisted about eight to 10 HPCL sites in Kolkata to set up restuarants, but have not finalised them yet," HPCL chief regional manager (retail) K S Rekhi said.

"The sites are expected to be finalised during the next meeting with McDonald's officials," he said.

The meeting, yet to be scheduled, was expected to be held next month, he said.

McDonald's India managing director (north & east) Vikram Bakshi would be in Kolkata shortly to finalise and announce the details of the outlets.

East India is a major focus region for expansion for the company and it intends 65 per cent of the 25 new restaurants planned in the current fiscal, to be in east India.

Total outlets of the company would cross 100 during the year and it is setting aside Rs 400 crore (Rs 4 billion) for expansion over the next two years.

The company was also in talks with some shopping malls in the city for McDonald's outlets and is planning to set up restaurants in HPCL petrol pumps has in Mumbai and Bangalore.
