German airliner Lufthansa has no plans to bid for equity in either Air-India or Indian Airlines as a counter to Air France-KLM mega merger, its executive vice-president Thierry Antinori said in New Delhi on Friday.
Labelling the merger as part of a worldwide trend to form strong alliances, Antinori said the company had no major acquisition plans in India as its Star Alliance and bilateral alliance with Air-India was paying dividends.
On the airliner holding its first ever global sales conference in India, Antinori said Lufthansa had managed to grab 14 per cent of the Europe bound Indian passenger traffic and had recorded a 30 per cent boost in passenger traffic between India and Germany.
The airliner planned to become the first airline in the world to introduce Internet service on board its flights, he said at a news conference in New Delhi.
"India is an important growing market for Lufthansa. With business traffic a key driver we plan to introduce a new business class service to the recently launched New Delhi-Munich route from June 9," Antinori said.
