Lucent Technologies has appointed Vivek Mohan as president and CEO of Lucent India. Previously, Mohan was a senior leader with Lucent's Supply Chain Network organisation, based in Shanghai.

As the company's senior executive in India, Mohan will focus on expanding the IT major's presence in the Indian market which is one of the world's fastest growing markets, Lucent Technologies said in a release in Mumbai on Tuesday.

He will be reporting to Lucent Asia Pacific President Bart Vogel, it said.

"India is an important and exciting market for Lucent," Vogel said, adding, "India is striving to improve the lives of its citizens by making advanced communications services more widely available".

The company intends to provide Indian customers and partners with a portfolio of products and services that would enable them to evolve next-generation networks and new services.

These products would also help in cutting cost of Indian companies' operations, the company claimed.

Prior to Lucent, Mohan had spent nine years doing business in India and is the founder and leader of two entrepreneurial enterprises based in India and US, followed by a consulting position with Nortel Networks. In these roles, he had held a number of sales and marketing positions.
