Onward Novell on Tuesday launched Linux desktops in India with a price tag of Rs 4000 with documentation.
The company also launched Onward Novell Enterprise Servers with commercial and open source networking platforms.
Novell Linux Desktop 9, is powered by SUSE Linux and comes with ready-to-use operating system, Novell edition of OpenOffice.org providing a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation suite compatible with Microsoft Office file formats.
The desktop is also powered by Mozilla Firefox browser and Novell Evolution, which integrates e-mail, calendar, contact management and task lists into one applications, he said.
"This provides with additional savings as the customer is not need to purchase an operating system license and they pay for expensive office applications on top," Ashit Panjawani, marketing director, Onward Novell said.
Affordable computing solutions can play a significant role in making Indian businesses more competition in today's complete business environment. With Novell Open Enterprise Server and Linux desktop, Indian organisations now have the freedom to reduce their dependence on vendors, lower their IT costs and have a choice on flexibility from Linux servers to desktops, Harish Mehta, MD, Onward Novell Software said.
Red Hat is the other Linux provider in India and has a sizable marketshare in this segment.
