Reforms simplified Indian labour laws: Expert

September 01, 2006 12:20 IST

India's labour laws have become less complicated with bold economic reforms and the over one billion population has become a potential human resource 'asset' in the nation's leap forward, a labour lawyer has said.

"The country's labour laws are less complicated and in the fast-changing economic scenario, the judiciary, government and the Parliament are moving towards encouragement of production and productivity," president of National Labour Law Association, Raj Birbal, said in Beijing on Thursday while addressing a workshop at the Peking University.

"2005 to 2015 is going to be the growth stage wherein Indian industry wants to not only feel good but shine and outperform. The personnel professionals have a positive role to play to ensure that the organization builds a committed workforce wherein employees enjoy the work and performs well," Birbal, also a Supreme Court advocate, said.

He noted that concerted efforts are being made in India that labour laws are harmonised in such a manner that on one hand there is maximum utilization of labour force and the working days to increase production and productivity and on the other hand there is social security and protection of jobs of the employees.
