Two-wheeler major Kinetic Engineering plans to sell 1,000 units of its new sports bike Comet 250 in India, a top company official said.

Priced at Rs 1.67 lakh, Comet 250 was launched in India through a strategic alliance with Kinetic's Korean partner Hyosung Motors, A D V Verma, deputy general manager, (sales), Kinetic said on Thursday.

Comet, manufactured by Hyosung Motors will be brought to India in completely knocked down form by Kinetic and assembled at its Pune plant.

The 250 cc vehicle with a speed of over 140 kph will be available only as a "limited edition" bike in select cities of Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkota, Guwahati, Coimbatore and Siliguri.

The bookings for the bike, which began early this week would close on November 20, he said. Verma claimed the price of Rs 1.67 lakh for Comet was much cheaper as it would cost Rs 4.80 lakh for importing the Hyosung bike to India.

The Comet will be supported by Kinetic in terms of after sales service and spare parts. Kinetic has a technical collaboration with Hyosung Motors and the product range includes Aquila, Comet, Laser and GF series.
