Kinetic to launch 7 Italian scooters in India

January 12, 2004 16:16 IST

The Pune-based Kinetic Motor Company has entered into a strategic alliance with Italian two wheeler maker Leopoldo Tartarini, founder of Italjet, for manufacturing and distribution rights for seven best selling international brands from Italjet's range of scooters.

The rights include sale of the seven scooters in a phased manner in India in the next two years as well as for exports, Kinetic joint managing director Sulajja Firodia Motwani told newspersons in Mumbai on Monday.

The seven models, ranging from 50 cc to 250 cc, are Jetset, Dragster, Formula, Torpedo, Velicofero, Millennium and Jupiter, she said, adding, Jetset is likely to be introduced in the Indian market by July followed by either Jupiter or Millennium six months later.

The prices would be competitive and in line with the Indian market, she said.

Kinetic group chairman Arun Firodia said the investment for the new models would be "marginal" as the necessary platforms are already in place.

Additionally, under the agreement with Tartarini, the founder of the privately held Italjet, will also design scooters specially for the Kinetic group for the next five years.

Motwani said the group is still in dialogue with Tartarini, founder of the privately held company with a turnover of euro 50 million, whether the Kinetic brand would be allowed for the export of the seven models.
