Increasing band of expats is driving the Jubilant Organosys drug development and discovery business. Of the total 1,025 scientific manpower strength, the company has attracted nearly 70 expatriates to work in their subsidiaries -- Jubilant Biosys and Jubilant Chemsys.

According to Mosur, CEO, Jubilant Biosys, expatriates have joined the company at mid and senior levels with huge exposure to the global pharmaceutical industry.

"This experienced foreign trained manpower is complemented by the young Indian scientific workforce, who are in their mid-20s," he added.

At Jubilant Biosys, expatriates are working on discovery informatics and drug discovery services whereas at Jubilant Chemsys, they are involved in functional chemistry.

On Saturday, the company opened Jubilant Discovery Centre in Yeshwantpur, Bangalore, spread over 125,000 square feet to house 500 scientists. The centre is to work on modern and sophisticated capabilities in molecular modelling, protein crystallography, medicinal chemistry and invitro/invivo biology capabilities.

"The centre will focus on collaborative development of novel molecules that have therapeutic use to treat disease in areas of cancer, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and HIV," said Shyam S Bhartia, CMD of Jubilant Organosys.

"The centre is also a manifestation of our commitment towards innovation-led growth that meets the expectations of all our stakeholders. Over the past few years, we have emerged as an integrated pharma industry player offering products and services to pharma and life sciences companies worldwide," he added.
