Dutch agency starts free service

January 10, 2006 11:18 IST

PUM, a Netherlands-based international job agency, has started operations in north India to provide technical inputs to local units facing various problems 'free of charge.'

Maarten O Pasmooy, general manager of PUM, which is backed by the Dutch government, has arrived in Dehra Dun on a three-day tour to meet industrialists.

PUM (which is working in South American countries, African countries, and Indonesia) has selected K R Jain, an Amritsar-based businessman, as its Indian representative, who would play the role of a moderator between the Dutch organisation and the local industrialists, Pasmooy told Business Standard.

PUM, which has gathered expertise in problems related to industry, agriculture, floriculture and other sectors, is working in Peru, Bolivia, Eritrea, Sudan, and Ethiopia.

"If you have any problem you just have to contact our representative, who would get in touch with us. Later, our experts can visit the particular industry to provide technical help," Pasmooy said.

For starting operations, Pasmooy had interactions with the Indian Industries Association of Uttaranchal (IIA). After holding talks, IIA President (Uttaranchal) Pankaj Gupta said his chamber was keen to take help from the Dutch organisation in reviving units that are in a state of neglect.

Given Holland's excellence in electronic goods, PUM could help Dehra Dun-based bulb units so that this cluster could be revived in due course, Gupta said.

Another area identified by PUM in Uttaranchal is floriculture. Floriculture could be developed in Uttaranchal, the potential for which had not been identified so far, Gupta said.

"We can provide seeds for some exotic flowers and provide greenhouse technology for agriculture crops," Pasmooy said.

Over the years, Holland has mastered greenhouse technology for growing various agriculture crops. PUM has invited agriculturists local to take help from it.

Pasmooy today visited a couple of units in Dehra Dun to take first-hand information regarding various problems being faced by them.
