The Indian aviation industry would create 40 lakh (4 million) jobs in the next 10 years, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in Mumbai on Saturday.

After IT, ITeS and telecom, the aviation industry would be the growth area that would open lot of opportunities for youngsters, he said.

Patel was in the city to accept Rotary's "Super Achiever Excellence Award" for opening up the Indian civil aviation sector.

The government has realised that it alone cannot to do everything for making India a prosperous country, he said. So, it has embraced the concept of public-private partnership, he added.

Besides Patel, Rotary also honoured Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Eknath Thakur with Lifetime Excellence Award and the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd with Corporate Social Responsibility Award.

Multi Commodity Exchange was honoured for integrating rural India to the global markets. It is one of the top 10 in global commodity exchange and it has 1,500 members. Its average trading per day is $1.5 billion.
