A lunch date with billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala attracted the highest bid of Rs 14.02 lakh (Rs 1.4 million), raking in one of the record amounts for an auction on online marketplace eBay.

The Rs 14.02 lakh amount has surpassed the previous highest bids on eBay for a coaching camp with cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar as well as a lunch date with Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, the online marketplace said in a statement on Tuesday.

The highest bid for lunch with Jhunjhunwala was put in by a Gujarat-based stock market analyst and the proceeds would be used for charity purposes.

"I congratulate the winner for bidding generously to support a good deed. It will be my pleasure to spend quality

time with him and provide him with insightful investment guidance," Jhunjhunwala said.

The auction, which began on October 26, ended on Tuesday. The bids started at Rs 1,001.

According to eBay, the bid amount of Rs 14.02 lakh would benefit Children's Movement for Civic Awareness.

Bids for a coaching camp with Tendulkar and lunch with Bachchan had earlier fetched Rs 12 lakh (Rs 1.2 million) and Rs 10.02 lakh (RS 1 million), respectively.

The auction to win a private lunch session with Jhunjhunwala, also known as India's Warren Buffett, saw 90 bids from India, Hong Kong and Germany.

eBay every year conducts a charity auction for a lunch with Warren Buffett, one of the richest people in the world. The annual auction attracts hundreds of bids and the proceeds are utilised for charity purposes.
