Sahara deal: Jet challenges jurisdiction

Jet Airways on Friday challenged the jurisdiction of the district court in Lucknow which ordered freezing of the escrow account opened for its buyout of Air Sahara.

Jet counsel Abhishek Singhvi questioned the maintainability of the petition filed by Air Sahara in Lucknow district court and contended that the case be heard by the Bombay High Court.

Singhvi argued that JetĀ filed a petition before the Bombay high court on June 20 and "as such this court had no jurisdiction to hear a matter pending in high court".

There cannot be two parallel hearings on the issue, he said.

The case is being heard at the court of district and sessions judge Shiv Charan Sharma who on June 21 passed the interim order restraining Jet from withdrawing money from the escrow account.

Sharma had restrained ICICI Bank, where the account has been opened, not to make any payments to Jet.
