As per the estimates of the National Association of Software and Services Companies, 2.4 million jobs would be created for trained information technology personnel by the end of the Tenth Five-Year Plan (2002-2007), the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

About 520,000 jobs have been created by the IT industry while 14,916 jobs have been filled by the department of telecommunication during the last four years, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sanjay Paswan said in a written reply.

Asked about the number of IT professionals who were employed abroad over the last four years, Paswan said that though no data is available, 50,000 such people are estimated to have been employed abroad as per Nasscom estimates.

Replying to another question, he said software exports grew by 24.24 per cent during the first 6 months of 2002-03 against the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
