Indian companies stole the show at the annual Pacific Area Writers Travel Association Awards at the ITB Berlin tourism fair in Berlin on Friday, with hospitality majors, ITC hotels, The Taj Group of Hotels and Kingfisher Airlines winning major honours.
ITC Maurya Sheraton in Delhi won 'Best Hotel for Global Leaders' after having hosted the likes of US President George W Bush.
Kingfisher Airlines, the only airline to win an award, was chosen 'Best New Domestic Airline for Excellent Services and Cuisine'.
Other award winners included Pawan Verma, vice president, operations for the ITC group of Hotels in the Young Achievers category, hotel magnate Lalit Suri for the 'Tourism Man of the Year' and Air India PRO Jitendra Bhargava.
A K Ravi Nedungadi, group CFO of the UB group said, "Being recognised at a global forum like ITB Berlin is an honour and I would like to thank PATWA for it."
PAWTA is the biggest travel writers' organisation representing members from 70 countries from all over the world with an aim to promote professional development of travel writing and travel communications.
