Billed as Asia's largest gathering of software process professionals, Asian SEPG 2003, a two-day conference on software process improvement began in Hyderabad on Friday.

A galaxy of executives of leading software companies, experts and policy makers are participating in the conference being organised by QAI India Ltd, a software process improvement organisation.

The main theme of the conference is 'driving process improvement into the future'.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the gathering to formulate a time-bound action plan to promote quality consciousness in the IT industry.

"The plan of action should specifically identify the role of the industry, academic institutions and governments. No organisation, whether it is government or private, can ignore the importance of quality delivery systems," Naidu said.

The conference, fifth in the series since its inception in 1999, would discuss the emerging trends in software process improvement sector and strategies to expand its applications for achieving business efficiency.

"The proof of Indian IT industry's constant focus on quality initiatives lies in the fact that the country has more SEI CMMM certified companies than any other nation," the Executive Director of QAI India Ltd Navyug Mohnot said on the occasion.
