The bilateral trade between India and Israel was expected to reach $2 billion this year as compared to $1.3 billion last year, Israeli Ambassador David Danieli said on Thursday.

"Our bilateral trade with India will reach $2 billion by the end of this year. We look forward to improved business relations and trade with India in the future," Danieli said.

The ambassador, speaking at an interactive session, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, said a business delegation from Israeli IT and telecom sectors would visit Indian cities late this year.

India, he said, was one of the largest trading partners for the middle-east Asian country, which had a global trade volume of $60 billion, out of which Israel's export was at $25 billion.

The major items of export from India to Israel were gems and jewellery, cotton textiles, drugs, pharmaceuticals, processed foods, agro chemicals, computer software and telecom equipment.

The country, he said, has offered its expertise in agriculture to Indian farmers in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra through drip irrigation projects.
