Two years after its first batch walked out of its premises in Hyderabad, the Indian School of Business has begun to give its peers a run for their money.

Sample this: The highest salary offered to a graduating ISB student this year by a domestic company was Rs 18 lakh a year, while the biggest packet for the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore was Rs 16 lakh (Rs 1.6 million), and for IIM-Lucknow and Ahmedabad Rs 14 lakh (Rs 1.4 million) each.

The highest salary for an overseas job offered to an ISB student was $103,333, bettered only by $130,000 offered to an IIM-Bangalore graduate this year. The top overseas salaries on offer for IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Lucknow were $82,000 and $60,000, respectively.

The average annual salary offered to ISB graduates by domestic companies was Rs 8.3 lakh (Rs 830,000), against Rs 6.2 lakh for IIM-Ahmedabad graduates and Rs 6.18 lakh (Rs 618,000) for IIM-Lucknow.

Salaries offered to ISB graduates with job experience were nearly double their average salary of Rs 4.25 lakh (Rs 425,000) prior to joining the school.

However, ISB graduates were made only 12 international offers, with the average salary from companies in the US and Europe being $66,000.

One of the newest business schools in India -- set up with the support of industry stalwarts like Anil Ambani, Rahul Bajaj, Anand Mahindra, Adi Godrej and Kumar Mangalam Birla -- the Indian School of Business has a visiting faculty boasting of teachers from Wharton, Kellogg, Harvard and Stanford.

The school plans to establish six centres of excellence for its focus areas: entrepreneurship, technology, managing emerging markets, leadership and change management, analytical finance and strategic marketing. The first of these, the Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurial Development, has been set up.
