Indian Railways earnings up by over 12%

Continuing the growth trajectory, railways have earned Rs 1,28,928.28 crore during April 2014- January 2015 as compared to Rs 1,14,428.52 cr during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.67 per cent.

The total earnings from goods during April-January were Rs 87,291.87 cr as against Rs 77,694.07 cr during the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 12.35 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.

The total earnings from passengers during April 2014 – January 2015 were Rs 35,309.81 cr compared to Rs 30,723.44 cr during the same period last year, registering an increase of 14.93 per cent.

The earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 3353.26 cr during April 2014–January 2015 compared to Rs 3179.49 cr during the same period last year, registering an increase of 5.47 per cent.

The total number of passengers booked during April– January were 6923.95 million compared to 6962.92 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.56 per cent.

In the suburban sector, the number of passengers booked during this 10-month period were 3791.88 million compared to 3715.11 million in the same period last year, showing a growth of 2.07 per cent.

However, in the non-suburban sector there is a decline in passenger ticket booking as 3132.07 million were booked in this period compared to 3247.81 million in the same period last year, a decrease of 3.56 per cent.
