Ikanos' fast broadband in India

Silicon Valley-based Ikanos Communications on Wednesday launched 100/100 Mbps fibre-fast broadband solution in India targeting businesses and consumers.

The solution, Fx 100100 chipset, is the first programmable silicon solution to provide fibre-fast speeds of up to 100 Mbps in both upstream and downstream over a carrier's existing telephone lines, Ravi Shankar, Ikanos India's managing director said.

"The Fx 100100 enables carriers to increase their revenue stream by offering subscribers the same high-speed symmetric bandwidth that customers are used to receiving from their Ethernet LANs," he said.

"Businesses and residences alike need the high bandwidth that only the Fx 100100 provides for applications such as real-time videoconferencing, peer-to-peer file sharing, and high volume data transfer," he said.

Ikanos, which has operations in US, Canada, China, Europe, Japan and Israel, among others, also announced it is expanding its R & D centre in Bangalore with plans to double number of engineers to 80 by the middle of this year.
