IIT Kharagpur grads get huge pay offers

Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur, recorded the highest domestic salary of Rs 18 lakh (Rs 1.8 million) per annum, while the average international salary offered was $70,000.

While the domestic average stood at Rs 11.44 lakh (Rs 1.144 million) per annum, the median was Rs 10.32 lakh (Rs 1.032 million) per annum, indicating a uniform placement performance across the batch.

The highest international offer of $80,000 (ABOUT Rs 32 lakh) is more than twice of last year's best Rs 13 lakh (Rs 1.3 million).

With multiple offers made to students, VGSOM saw a 30 per cent increase in the average salary levels, notwithstanding the sizeable batch strength of 121 students.

Some of the roles offered were of global leadership, management consulting, investment banking, corporate planning and strategy, brand management, real-estate consulting, equity research, knowledge management, SCM consulting, treasury, risk management and product merchandising.

About 30 per cent of the batch had pre-placement offers in their kitty from prestigious names like Barclays Capital (Singapore), A&J Consulting (USA), Citigroup, Ernst & Young, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, ITC, RPG and Yahoo.

First time recruiters making a beeline to VGSOM this year included the likes of Lehman Brothers, Yes Bank, Knox Capital, Angel Broking, Schlumberger, Deloitte Consulting, Avalon Consulting, Eicher Consulting, MarketRx, Heinz, Bombay Dyeing, Maytas, i2 technologies and Reliance ADAG.

Consulting majors like Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Ernst & Young, Accenture, Avalon, and Deloitte participated in the process.

Niche consulting majors like Eicher Consulting, i2 technologies and Bristlecone (SCM Consulting), MarketRx, and Headstrong offered diverse profiles.

The finance sector had diverse representation through Lehman Brothers, Yes Bank, Citibank, HSBC, Irevna, STCI, Infosys BPO, Knox Capital, AnandRathi, ICICI Bank and ICICI Prudential.

Marketing profiles included offers from ITC, Vodafone, Heinz, RPG, Bombay Dyeing and Reliance ADAG. Students preferred sunrise sectors like real-estate (Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj), retail (Spencers) and infrastructure (Maytas Infra) over the traditional ones.

While the information technology (IT) sector recruitment saw profiles offered by majors like IBM, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Infosys, HCL Technologies, NIIT Technologies, Maverick Systems, Aricent, Evalueserve and EDS. Operations profiles were offered by Schlumberger, ITC, Voltas, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland.<hr>
