The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has received financial assistance of $200,000 from its 1972 batch graduates in order to create two chairs in the faculty.

This was the largest donation by the former students to IIT Kanpur.

Former student Udai Pratap Singh said the batch would provide financial assistance for scholarship to needy students, various projects and faculities.

He said the 1972 batch had been considering to provide Rs 500,000
to the institute.

The two former students -- Kamal Aggarwal and Rakesh Gandhi -- had promised $100,000 each for establishing the faculty chairs, the biggest ever donation to create faculty chair.
