Kharagpur IIT-ians, who have several firsts to their credit, have come out with a 10-point agenda to transform India into an economic power with 10-12 per cent annual growth.

Thousands of IIT-ians, who have come under the banner of its alumni association, have identified good governance including rooting out of corruption, effective administration and cent per cent functional literacy as some of the areas where the government should lay stress.

The other focus areas in the ten-point agenda are improving health care and maximising exports, improving vocational education and enterprise skills, Madhusudan Chakraborty, dean of alumni affairs of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, told reporters in New Delhi.

As part of this mission, IIT-ians propose to create awareness for achieving good governance.

"India's future lies in becoming a resource base for the world in manufacturing, trading and services since 99.3 per cent of the world trade and 98.6 per cent of the world buying power were not with India," he said.
