The Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIMB) has decided to the increase student intake for its courses from the academic year 2005-06, Director IIMB, Prof Prakash G Apte said on Tuesday.

IIMB has increased the number of students in the Post Graduate Programme in Management from 180 to 240 from the academic year 2005-06, he told PTI.

In case of Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM), IIMB proposes to increase the intake from 30 to 40-45 from 2006-07, he said.

To accommodate the students, a new 160-room hostel block is being constructed. The first phase of construction comprising 60 rooms is nearing completion and the remaining will be ready by the end of this year, Apte said.

Giving details about the virtual classroom project, he said, in addition to the establishment of Post Graduate Programme In Software Management (PGSEM) section at Chennai, "we are examining the possibility of this arrangement in other locations such as Hyderabad."

As part of its corporate training programme for senior managers and board members, a team of IIMB faculty was recently trained in Washington under the Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship, Apte said.

IIMB, earlier this year offered Advanced Leadership Programme for senior managers in partnership with McGill and Lancaster universities. "This programme aims at leadership development embedded in a process of organisational development," he added.
