IT majors queue up for IIIT's Class of 2003

The International Institute of Information Technology in Hyderabad has received a good response from the global IT companies to its placement drive for the class of 2003.

The highest pay was offered by Oracle to a student with an annual package of Rs 4 lakh (0.4 million), while the average salary for the batch was at Rs 2.52 lakh (0.25 million).

The batch consisted of 133 students, of which 94 were B Tech and 39 M Tech. Of them, 121 participated in the placement exercise and all got offers.

TCS stood at the top among the recruiters by taking in 26 students, followed by Satyam Computer Services and Wipro Technologies at eleven students each. There were seven girl students among those placed.

According to a release, other major companies that have participated in the placement season included ADP Wilco, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Keane, Mastek, Motorola, Oracle, Pramati Technologies, SEEC, Virtusa, Xius and Zensar Technologies.

The class of 2002, which was IIIT's first batch, consisted of 79 students of whom 49 found placements, with the remaining 30 deciding to pursue higher studies.

In this year's batch about 15 per cent of the students have decided to pursue higher studies in technology and management institutes like Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, IIMs, XLRI etc, the release said.

"A Singapore-based company absorbed one of our students as a partner/director and the offer was so good that the student gave up full financial aid at a US university to take up the job," the release claimed.

The institute has an ambitious programme for the creation of next generation researchers, faculty members and innovators called the research exchange programme, wherein the candidate registers for Ph.D and spends equal amount of time at the IIIT and with a partner research group abroad. He will be fully supported financially.

The institute has forged partnerships with the leading research groups at Carnegie Mellon University, Massachusettes Institute of Technology etc.  Seven of the students who had graduated in BTech were selected at the institute for Ph D. Four of these are leaving to spend six months at Carnegie Mellon, the release added.

For the current year, the career service and brand management office of the institute has planned many industry-institute interactions to further strengthen the placement process.
