Attributing its success in restructuring and adopting good business practices to India, i2 Technologies Inc, the US-based supply chain management solutions firm, on Thursday said it was 'bullish' on leveraging its workforce in the country to drive the firm on the growth path.
"The restructuring of the company. . . you can largely attribute that to India. We have shifted talent to India and our quality has gone up and customer focus has gone up," i2 Technologies Inc CEO Sanjiv Sidhu told reporters in Bangalore on Thursday.
He said i2 -- a $1 billion firm during 1998 saw a crash in its revenues to touch $400 million in 2002-03 -- had moved majority of its research, application development and support services to India.
Besides delivering full cycle products, Sidhu said, i2 was now offering mass customisation of the product for customers, along with partners like Tata Consultancy Services, in the country.
"We are looking at products, resource allocation, implementation and product maintenance from here. Now we have 60 per cent work done here and we believe that we can scale that up to 70 per cent or so," i2 India managing director Sankalp Saxena said.
Sidhu said the firm had about 15 customers in India and would now test its products with Indian customers.
"It is essential we need Indian customers as large part of our work is done here and the developing teams need a lot of customer feedback," he said.
Saxena said i2 started moving about 200 people to India from the US and has also hired people here to touch a strength of 1,058 people.
He said about 70 people were working in i2's BPO operations in Bangalore providing support to Asia Pacific and Europe customers and the company planned to expand it for the US market.
"We are quite specific that there will be more mass customisation in India as against site implementation," Sidhu said, adding that ERP players like SAP have given the firm 'difficult' times due to their entry into the supply chain management stream.
