Hyundai Motor India recorded an impressive 121 per cent growth in sales in April this year at 19,853 units.

A fully-owned subsidiary of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co, the Indian subsidiary saw exports grow 97 per cent to 6,533 units while growth in the domestic market was a whopping 134 per cent on sale of 13,300 units.

The company said the sales included 14,552 units of its flagship hatchback 'Santro', 1,026 units of 'Getz' and 3,791 units of mid-size 'Accent'. It sold 138 units of the 'Tucson', a SUV model it launched recently.

"We are confident of repeating this performance in the coming months," Hyundai India president B V R Subbu said in a statement in New Delhi.

Earlier in the day, car market leader Maruti reported a four per cent drop in numbers to 38,190 units, pulled down by poor exports and declining M800 model sales.
