Last updated on: December 29, 2008 16:08 IST

Country's second largest car maker Hyundai Motor India LtdĀ on Monday launched its premium hatch back car i20 priced between Rs 4.80 lakh and Rs 5,82,000.

The car will be available with a 1.2 litre Kappa engine in three variants.

The company has also decided not to absorb 1,200 trainees as it reduces working shifts in its Chennai plant.

"Since the unveiling of the car at the Paris Motor Show in October this year, we have been receiving overwhelming response to the i20 in Europe and it continues to reaffirm the iconic place that our products enjoy around the world." HMIL managing director H S Lheem told reporters.

The car will be exclusively manufactured at the company facility in Chennai and it would be exported worldwide.

HMIL has already started exports to Europe in November, he added.

Hyundai will not be absorbing 1,200 trainees as it cuts production from 3 shift to 2 shifts at the Chennai plant, HMIL president Ashok Jha said. -- PTI
