January 15, 2004 15:46 IST

Cellular service provider Hutch will spend Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion) on network expansion in Rajasthan this year.

Hutchison, which forged a joint venture with Essar to create Hutch brand, invested Rs 130 crore (Rs 1.30 billion) in the last calendar year, Hutchison Essar executive director Rajiv Sawhney told reporters in Jaipur.

Hutch services, Sawhney said, would soon have a bigger presence across the desert state from the current 18 key locations to over 50 cities and towns in a year with enhanced customer care service.

The subscribers would get uninterrupted connectivity all along the Jaipur-Delhi national highway and roaming facility across 132 countries and 220 networks, he said.

Hutchison Essar cellular services are available in ten circles covering 70 per cent of the country's purchasing power and now had a combined subscriber base of over four million cellular subscribers, he added.
