From companies like ITC to HLL, nearly 526 industries have given their final nod to put up shops in this industrial estate, which is the first in Uttaranchal to be developed by the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal Ltd over 1,468 acres.
The Haridwar Industrial estate will have a total of 822 plots. While 29 companies including Hindustan Lever Ltd and Mahindra and Mahindra have already started production, 173 have started construction work. A total of 277 industries have been given possession of industrial plots.
Top officials claimed that nearly 31,000 people would get employment here. "This figure may vary, but people are certainly getting a lot of offers from these companies," said an industrial department official.
Gherzi Eastern Ltd, a New Delhi-based company, has been appointed as the supervisory and consultancy agency for completing work related to roads, drainage and water supply here.
For maintaining the power load requirement, which comes to around 120 Mw, the government is setting up a separate 220 KV substation with two independent feeders, which will be completed by January 2006. In addition to this, six small 33/11 KV sub-stations will also be installed. A central effluent treatment plant is also being set up to fulfil the environmental norms.
"We are providing all the basic facilities which are necessary for a good industrial estate," said the official. In this regard, he said the government would provide facilities like office buildings, shopping malls, plaza, recreation facilities, hotels and restaurants, banks and ATM counters, transport plaza, information kiosks, IT/Telecom centres et al.
While ITC is setting up a food and personal care product unit investing Rs 125 crore (Rs 1.25 billion) in Haridwar, HLL has established a cosmetics and toiletries production unit with an investment of Rs 102 crore (Rs 1.02 billion).
