The Union tourism ministry has approved 51 hotel projects in South India, according to a Confederation of Indian Industry report.

"The tourism ministry has approved 51 hotel projects in the southern part of India. These projects are expected to be completed in the next three years," a CII-southern region report said in Chennai.

Most of the hotels approved by the ministry are in the three-star category.

Four of the total of 51 projects will be set up with foreign collaboration, the report said.

Kerala tops the table with 19 hotels to be set up in that state. Andhra Pradesh will have seven, followed by Tamil Nadu (4) and Pondicherry (2), the release added. The report did not give details of Karnataka.
