Honda aims for 50,000 units a year

With the expansion of its greater Noida plant almost complete, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd expects to enhance its production from 30,000 to 50,000 units a year.

"The plant at Greater Noida has more scope for expansion and we may take up further expansion soon," stated Rajiv Saharia, general manager (marketing), Honda Siel Cars India Ltd.

The company expects to increase its production keeping in mind the demand for newly launched new City ZX model, he said.

Saharia, who was in Goa to launch the company's latest City ZX model, said, "The decision to launch City ZX in India, almost simultaneously with other parts of Asia is a part of our thrust to bring in the latest products and technology to the Indian customers," he said.

Speaking about the Greater Noida plant, which is company's lone production plant in India, he said, "The factory was envisaged keeping in view the growth and potential of the company. We have around 180 acres of land of which 30 per cent is utilised leaving scope for further expansion."

The plant was commissioned in 1997 and the current expansion phase costing Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.5 billion) has almost been completed, he said.

Saharia said that Honda City was one of the company's most successful car brands in the country and certainly the most desirable sedan in this category. "The initial response to the new model is encouraging. We have received over 2,000 bookings for City ZX," he said.
