Stalemate at Hero Honda's Gurgaon plant continued as the company held talks with striking contractual workers to end the impasse that has brought production to a halt since Monday morning.

"The talks are still on and nothing more can be said at this stage," a senior company official said.

The company on Wednesday expressed hope that a solution could be reached soon as it was "favourably considering" the various demands of the strikers, including on regularisation.

As many as 2,000 contract workers at the Gurgaon plant, which has a daily average production capacity of 5,800 units, have struck work since Monday morning, bringing production to a

halt.

Among other things, the workers are demanding regularisation on the basis of seniority, higher wages and benefits like medical facilities and compensatory offs.

Hero Honda has said while regularising some of the workers, it would consider a variety of factors, including seniority, qualification, skill levels and capability.

Hero Honda, the country's biggest bike maker, has the Munjals and Japan's Honda Motor as the biggest stakeholders, both holding 26 per cent each.

Apart from Gurgaon, the company has a second plant at Dharuhera, also in Haryana, though production levels there are lower than the Gurgaon facility.
