Hindustan Motors Limited on Wednesday said it planned to produce this year 2,000 units of Ambassador Grand, the newest variant of Ambassador that has sleeker interiors and exteriors.

Satish Burman, vice president, marketing, HML, said the company intended to increase its car production to over 10,000 units next year.

It aimed to sell over 20,000 Ambassador cars this year, up from 14,000 sold during the last fiscal, he said in Bangalore.

He said the newest variant has new grille, large tail lamps and new transparent headlamps, keeping the targeted buyers -- particularly bureaucrats and politicians -- in mind.

The new model will feature the 1.8-litre strong Isuzu MPFi petrol engine and 2-litre diesel engine and Isuzu MSG5T five-speed gearbox.

It will be available off the shelf by the end of this month in six new metallic colours - Boraque Red, Mica Brown, Thurston Grey, Symphony Silver, Symphony Gold and Pearl Black, he said.
