HM's Uttarpara plant reopens

Hindustan Motor's Uttarpara unit in West Bengal which was shut since April 11 due to labour unrest, reopened on Thursday following an agreement between company management and trade unions.

"The company is pleased to withdraw 'suspension of work' declared on April 11 at Uttarpara Unit with effect from May 10," Hindustan Motors said in a communique to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The management of Hindustan Motors Ltd signed an agreement (memorandum of settlement) on Wednesday with three trade unions CITU-affiliated HM Workers Union, Indian Federation of Trade Union and

SSU. However, the main striking unions Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union and Indian National Trade Union Congress -- did not sign the agreement.

The state government has also refused to sign the pacts, sources said. SSKU had been on strike since March 13 demanding withdrawal on DA freeze, normalcy in salary payments and withdrawal of the suspension order against several employees.
