Hexaware Technologies has bagged a deal with Lufthansa Systems to provide maintenance services for the Lufthansa group subsidiary's check-in, inventory and ticketing applications, the Mumbai-based company which is listed on the Indian and London stock exchanges announced in Frankfurt.
Both Hexaware executives and Lufthansa Systems vice president, business segment, airline services, Dirk John, who was present on the occasion, declined to spell out the value of the deal.
While that could be attributed to German employee union sensitivities, some speculate that the deal is worth several million dollars.
John told visiting Indian journalists in Frankfurt that the latest three-year contract involved applications that are at the core of passenger reservations and check-in systems and that 50 people would work on the project.
In 2002, Lufthansa Systems signed a 40-month deal with Hexaware for cargo systems and another five-year deal relating to a customer relationship management system.
Hexaware said that the deal would strengthen Hexaware's position in two focus areas - Germany and the airlines and transportation practice.
Earlier, Ronny Vyncke, director, IT, at Citibank, Germany, which has a deal with Hexaware to maintain and enhance the bank's back end systems, said that Citibank was working on an internal three-year, $100 million back end banking project and that Hexaware's share of the project would probably exceed $15 million.
"We are currently doing the planning for the project," Vyncke said.
