Haier launches GSM phones in India

Haier India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Haier group of China, on Wednesday launched a series of GSM mobile phones in Kolkata.

After entering the consumer electronics market in India last year, the company on Wednesday entered the mobile telephony segment with the launch of seven models priced between Rs 3654 and Rs 14,940.

Haier India president and CEO T K Banerjee said that the company was also in talks with CDMA operators for launching mobile handsets using this technology.

Banerjee said that Haier was the number one brand in China, and was also present in the markets of USA and Europe.
