A globe-trotting management consultant and author, Hagel is hailed for his out-of-the-box thinking on outsourcing, globalisation, retailing and the Internet. Hagel was in Mumbai last Friday to attend CIO100 symposium and
awards ceremony organised by IDG.
"I am inspired by Tom Friedman when he says connectivity is cheaper and globalisation has arrived; but I start from where he leaves it. Friedman speaks about challenges that accompany globalisation, while I focus on how to respond to these challenges and how to function in a highly-competitive environment," Hagel told Business Standard
Globalisation brings in a level-playing scenario, where everyone competes with everyone else, resulting in intense competition. Finding the most attractive talent and retaining them is the 'task' for corporates, wherever they are in the world.
At a time when Americans are against outsourcing, Hagel stands up for 'moving process across borders' and shatters the myth that it takes away jobs.
"On the contrary, it increases job opportunities and helps organisations focus on challenges and opportunities.
