The second day of the Gartex Mart saw the inking of five memorandum of understandings worth Rs 10,600 crore (Rs 106 billion) between the Gujarat government and various organisations and associations.
The Rs 4,600 crore (Rs 46 billion) MoU signed between the Gujarat Hira Bourse and the state government was the highest deal of the day. GHB is promoted by the Surat diamond cutting and polishing industry.
This deal is for the setting up of a jewellery park in Surat. The park envisages setting up of 200 export-oriented units at Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30 billion) in the special economic zone, while 300 units will be set up in the domestic market for Rs 1,500 crore (Rs 15 billion).
GHB has earmaked Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) for the development of a training centre and a research and development centre. The state government will provide land at a reasonable cost for the park.
The remaining MoUs include the Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30 billion) deal signed between the South Gujarat Texturisers Association and the government for the modernisation of member units.
Another MoU worth Rs 2,500 crore (Rs 25 billion) was signed between the South Gujarat Processors Association and the Gujarat government.
The third deal of Rs 105 crore (Rs 1.05 billion) was between the Gujarat government and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry for setting up of a trade centre in Surat.
Group Ashima and associates have signed a MoU worth Rs 500 crore (Rs 5 billion) for setting up an industrial park.
Expressing his happiness over the success of Vibrant Gujarat -- Global Gujarat Summit, chief minister Narendra Modi said the blue print of a Vibrant Gujarat has been chalked out and now it has be implemented.
"Navratri is the right time to market Gujarat's strengths across different sectors like handicrafts, textiles, gems and jewellery, holistic health care and education to the global community. The biggest achievement of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit has been in gaining the confidence of investors," Modi said.
The three-day-long meet witnessed the inking of MoUs worth over Rs 55,000 crore (Rs 550 billion). The meet also saw a Rs 6,500 crore (Rs 65 billion) investment by textile entrepreneurs today at the Gartex Mart.
"We are pleased that our efforts are bearing positive results and we will continue to move forward by following the mantra of -- Develop Gujarat to Develop India," Modi said.
The inaugural function of Gartexcon -- a conference on textiles and garments at Gartex Mart -- witnessed informative sessions on the garment and the textile industry, which were addressed by several eminent speakers from the industry.
They made presentations on a wide spectrum of topics such as "Cotton textiles in Gujarat_Sustaining the leadership position", "Indian Textile Industry -- The Road Ahead", "Garment and Apparel Park in Surat, India's preparedness in textiles and clothing -- The post MFA Scenario."
At a panel discussion on the "Relevance of garment industry and its potential in Surat and Ahmedabad, experts chalked out an agenda that would be instrumental to induce growth and prosperity in the Indian and Gujarat Textile and Garment Industry.
Besides Modi, prominent among those who attended the conference were Arvind Mills Ltd chairman Sanjay Lalbhai and Chintan Parikh of Group Ashima.
