Gold, silver prices rise

Gold prices spurted on the bullion market on Wednesday on the emergence of buying by stockists triggered by a rising trend in international markets and closed with notable gains.

Silver prices shot up for the second day in a row, notching up a significant ground as coins manufacturers bought in a big way for ensuing marriage season and for the Makar Sakranti festival on Thursday.

Marketmen said there was retail buying in silver while gold was firm on stockists' buying for the coming marriage season. They said the buying was more confined to silver as industrial units also joined the retail customers.

Standard gold and ornaments shot up by Rs 40 each at Rs.6155 and Rs.6005 per ten gram respectively. Sovereign also gained Rs.25 at Rs.5200 per piece of eight gram.

Silver ready was further higher by Rs 185 at Rs 10,260 per kilo and weekly-based delivery by Rs.130 at Rs 10,255 per kilo on speculators sustained support.

Silver coins were continued to be asked at previous levels of Rs 14,200 for buying and Rs 14,400 for selling of 100 pieces.
