Speaking at a news conference, Amit Dutta, vice-president (marketing, sales and aftersales) of GM India, said the production capacity would be enhanced to meet the demand of its products across various segments.
Launching the Chevrolet Optra 2005 NY edition, he said the company sold 9200 Optras last year and the sale of the car was expected to grow by five per cent in 2005.
Similarly, Chevrolet Tavera has sold 8400 units since its launch in June 2004, he said, adding the company has targeted a sale of 21,000 units for the current year.
He said GM India has invested around Rs 1380 crore (Rs 13.8 billion) in the country, including the incremental expenditure, which would be used for doubling the capacity.
