General Motors India on Wednesday said sales jumped 119 per cent in October 2004 to 2,752 units over 1258 units in the same month last year, largely due to the increased sales of multi-utility vehicle 'Chevrolet Tavera'.
Consolidated sales during January-October 2004 increased 74 per cent to 21,269 units as against 12,245 units in the corresponding period last year, a GMI release said.
The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corp, sold 1418 units of 'Chevrolet Tavera', 722 units of 'Chevrolet Optra' and 607 units of 'Opel Corsa' during the review month.
The company is also ramping up its production facility to meet the increased demand. "The growing popularity of the Chevrolet and Opel brands in India has strengthened our resolve to introduce some more new and exciting products specifically designed for the country.
We are also ramping up production at our Halol facility in Gujarat to provide world class vehicles made in India to the consumer," GMI Vice-President (corporate affairs) P Balendran said.
