The government on Monday revised the economic growth to 8.5 per cent for 2003-04 from 8.2 per cent estimated earlier, mainly due to a bumper agricultural growth of 9.6 per cent.

The high GDP growth of 8.5 per cent during 2003-04 came after a lower growth of just four per cent in 2002-03, according to the quick estimates of national income released by the Central Statistical Organisation.

During the last fiscal, manufacturing also registered a growth of 6.9 per cent over 6.5 per cent in 2002-03.

The estimates show that agriculture production fell in 2002-03 by 7 per cent.
