According to New York Daily News, the seven days of seclusion spent in a secret Northwest locale are used to ponder over the future of his computer empire.
They have yielded some of Microsoft's most innovative ideas, including its Internet browser, the tablet computer and its online video games.
One lunch even consisted of grilled cheese and clam chowder.
Gates spends this time poring through dozens of papers penned by employees pitching their ideas ranging from software security to leads on new technology trends.
