The Rs 3,200-crore (Rs 32 billion) Hazira LNG Pvt Ltd is expecting to land itself long term gas supply contracts to various domestic fertiliser and power producers, including the Dabhol project, by the end of this year.

"We are (currently) operating on merchant basis, providing gas from diverse sources to the north west of the country.

Presently, we are very much into short term contracts. We are in negotiations with few power and fertiliser manufacturers... We expect to finalise some of these deals this year," Shell Director (Gas and Power) Marc Den Hartog told PTI.

The company, which has its LNG terminal and port project at Hazira, is presently supplying gas to few power producers in Gujarat, including state-run NTPC and is in talks with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, Torrent and few fetiliser producers in the state.

Hazira terminal is connected to GSPC gas pipeline network and expects to get connected to Gail network by next few months.

"Once we get connected to the Gail network, we will be able to supply gas at more destinations," he said.

The company is also exploring an option of supplying gas to the Ratnagiri gas and power project (erstwhile Dabhol project).

"We are interested in supplying gas to Dabhol... as after certain period the presently naphtha-run plant has to be converted into gas-based generation. Once the work on Dahej-Uran line is completed, this line may be extended to Dabhol...with this we can supply gas there," said Hartog.
